We shape the hotel room of the future!

SuitePad is a Berlin-based SaaS company focused on hotel tech. We deliver hotels’ aggregated content, entertainment, and services through in-room tablets, web, and set-top-boxes. The depth and quality of our services have made us the European market leader for in-room guest communication and more than 800 of the most renowned hotels worldwide trust us with their digital guest communication. We are now looking for someone to help build out new device capabilities on our custom Android tablets and other devices.

Our Playground – not a typical Android position!

The Android component of this role is not a typical Android engineering position. While we build and support several native Android apps, the meat of this role will focus on systems design, infrastructure improvement, and automated testing. It will require dealing with ROMs, the Linux system, Android source code, and private/hidden Android APIs. While experience with these deeper Android dynamics is strongly desired, we would also be open to someone capable of growing into the role.

  • Work with a growing team of seven engineers - You + 2 android/java and 5 full stack engineers
  • Work with a fleet of Android devices and remote control servers - running our custom ROMs, native and hybrid android apps.
  • Push the limits of your knowledge - discover ways of doing things that aren’t publicly documented and virtually no one else is doing
  • Help us explore how to expand our existing infrastructure into the IOT space with custom hardware in a structured, sustainable way
  • Day-to-day responsibilities will include various support tickets or tasks
  • No German language skills required
Your Profile

Generally:

  • You’ve architected and implemented complex, maintainable systems and could describe some of the tougher problems you were proud of solving in an interview
  • You are a veteran with automated testing
  • You should be able to learn complex frameworks and unfamiliar technologies (content streaming protocols, audio transmission processing, Firmware customization)
  • Eager to automate things and some comfort hacking around with custom hardware
  • You feel at home in Unix-like environments and are not afraid of compilers (for custom Android ROMs)
  • You can evaluate the tradeoffs between open source or proprietary solutions and may have even contributed to OS projects
  • You have 7-10 years of development experience

Java:

  • You have 2-5 years of professional experience in Java/Kotlin and Linux
  • Again, you can (or are eager to learn) dive deep into Android, Firmwares and Linux APIs
  • Familiarity with Java generics, Java annotations, and Java’s reflection APIs

Android:

  • You have at least a year of work experience with Android
  • Familiarity with Android’s permission system, background services, and cross-app communication
  • Familiarity with custom ROMs - bootloaders, recovery modes, fastboot, device unlocking
  • Experience with either hidden Android APIs, Android for Work APIs developing a device administrator or a device owner app

Bonus if you have…

  • Experience with IOT devices, Bluetooth and networking technology
  • Experience with VOIP/SIP protocols and associated network infrastructure familiarity
  • Experience integrating with JSON-APIs
  • Familiarity with Javascript and Xwalk

We offer:

  • an innovative product with global traction in a growing market
  • collaborative, swift decision making and flat hierarchies
  • a high degree of freedom in your work
  • an excellent onboarding, continuous training and a budget for personal development and conferences

  • a modern office, right in central Berlin (Kreuzberg/ Mitte)
  • a lot of, no literally, tons of Android tablets and other devices at your disposal
